Long Good Days
Jun. 28th, 2006 10:29 pmBegan yesterday morn by getting
sidhefire from the airport in SJ. They've got a most sensible set up there where there's a special Cell Phone Waiting Lot not far from a direct short route to the terminals so when whoever you're picking up lands and is nearly ready for pick-up they can call you and you can drive over and gets 'em rather than endlessly circle the entire airport waiting for the call. Then we wandered back to my 'rents' casa to hang out for a bit before lunching on darned good Thai chow in downtown SJ where S impressed the waitress - not to mention us - with her good Thai language skills.
We then headed down to Carmel via Hwy 17 dodging 'tween rays of light and pockets of fog along the way. After getting settled into the casa we headed out to the trad'l beach walk by the olde schoolhouse (where my step-mom'd attended elem school decades ago), picking up interesting rocks and odiferous shells and other bits of sea-life (now not so life-like), watching the fog roll in whilst enjoying the sun on our faces, living the rough life. ;-) Then we sat out on the porch for a while and when it got too cool headed in for lounging by the blazing fire...with a brief darting visit from the resident bat.
After a good night's sleep we ambled down the coast (Hwy 1) through Big Sur, again alternating 'tween sunshine & fogginess. We arrived in good time to b-fast at Cafe Kevah then continued making our way Southward, stopping at various turn-outs to check out the views and walk out to see the lovely waterfall onto the beach at Julia Pfeiffer Burns. Lunched on numbly Mediterraneous food in SLO then took a break to soak in a hillside hot-spring tub near Avila before making it the rest of the way home when we engaged in a bit of BPAL-ling. Yay for hanging out w/goood fun gals!
O'morrow the scentedness experimentation continues as we make our way over to Lush (nearby!) for bath bombs. Costuming for Faerieworlds will also occur...looking for dryadish (NOT Dry Radish) stuff at the local Salvation Army Boutique, Goodwill, etc. Any particularly good thrift stores anyone can recommend would be appreciated muchly.
Fri morn it's off to Sta Barbie to deliver S on her way to Amtrak adventurousness then onto Red Hot for inking of my newest (bee/air). Phew!
Have been working on making lists (and checking them thrice) to help the packing for my 4-week-long trip later this summer. Leaving in approx 1.5 weeks...ACK! Breathe. Actually it's all starting to look good. Got a good tip from Mom re: places to stay and eat up by Mendocino. Am also looking into the Ashland/OR Shakespeare Fest options and considering various possibilities for solo travel if'n it doesn't work out w/the travel-bud I'd originally hoped to join me from CA - WA.
