Note to self: you ain't as young as you once were, and you cannot carry on like you once could without adverse side effects. I'm not talking about going out carousing either. Simple things like getting up early and driving for hours now exhaust me like they never did before. Read more... )

Flew back to the Bay Area today for a few days after a brief return home for an epic concert this past Sunday. Saw Stephen Stills at the Aladdin w/a friend. (Average audience age: bald/grey ;-) His voice was a bit thrashed, but the whole experience was awesome. Yesterday featured sleeping in and a bunch of basketball (go TrailBlazers!).

Nice walk and dinner w/step-sis and her hubby this evening. (Luckily the heat began to break.) Will have breakfast at Homemade Cafe in Berkeley w/former o'morrow, then continue on to SJ for the day and night w/Mom & J. On Thursday I'll start driving Northward. Should arrive home again (home again, jiggidy jig) on Friday, hopefully for a BBQ w/friends. Heading out again on Wed, heading coastal all the way down to Eureka for a wedding over Mem'l Day weekend, returning the Tu (or Wed) after.

Poor health (not mine, but fambily & Dear Friends) means I've decided not to head Back East in July. I will, however, fly Down South (SoCal) for a few days in June. Yes, it's Troubie-time once again: Abbememnon. WheeZoom!

Zoom!

Driving from Berkeley to Albany this AM to spend a bit of Mom's Day w/Mom, who'll then drive me to BART so I can get to OAK and fly to PDX. Luckily it's been raining some, so I needn't water outside, but I'll water the inside plants and do laundry this afternoon. This evening's plans include dinner at the Lamp and Stephan Stills at the Aladdin Theater. WhooHoo!

Tomorrow's for dealing w/mail, &c. and repacking, as I fly PDX-OAK come Tuesday. Tu eve = visiting fambily in Albany. Wed = visiting and staying onite chez Mom & J. Thursday I start driving Northward towards home, to arrive sometime 'tween Th & Sat. Plans are indeed fluid.

WheeZoomSplat!

Fascinating. I have just exactly enough brainwidth right now to deal w/all the ducks currently in the air and/or milling about waiting for orders to fly into formation, but the creative-come-up-with-clever-ideas-that-don't-involve-logistics part o' my brain is currently off-line. Logistics is ALL. And that's just fine 'n' dandy. Overwhelm is close, but not here. Still functioning...although perhaps not as efficiently as possible (case in point, I'm doing this entry rather than packing/stacking/listing things 'n' stuff or doing any other of the myriad trip-prep activities I could be doing). Hell - I'm taking a break now, that's whassup. Back at in just a bit...

Phew! *rolls up my sleeves, cranks the music, and has at once again* Whee! (I really do enjoy this stuff :-)

BAZOOM.

Leaving o'morrow for a week in SoCal. Gonna have fun, see people, enjoy beach walkies, chow down on Czech food, bask in sunshine & the 70s (degrees F not the former decade ;-),and and and Happenings )

Well, I'm quite glad I opted to stay in this evening after today's lovely sunny drive down from CopperMoon to the Hive - with a great stop-off about half-way down for meeting up w/[livejournal.com profile] vismaya_viewer, [livejournal.com profile] stinkys_nunzio, and chilluns C&J for a Mad Hatter Chai Party (Injun chow & much reading aloud of poetry) - as I've quite enjoyed this eve's long bubbly bath, chat w/a Dear Friend, and good book.

I've just shifted my return flight outta OAK rather than SJC on Sun (12/27/09) which'll make life much easier, although I'm still unsure how I'm gonna get myself and my luggage Northward and then to BART/OAK. It'll work out, although how remains a mystery for now. :-)

Sleep now. Crash. Boom.
mlerules: (Safe Travels)
2008: 16 weekends at the Hive, 18 weekends at CopperMoon, 18 weekends elsewhere (5 of 'em in SoCal)

2009: 22 weekends at the Hive, 20 weekends at CopperMoon, 10 weekends elsewhere (4 of 'em in SoCal)

Mind you, my "weekends" run 4-7 days. In 2009 I spent a solid week-and-a-half in April & three (3) straight weeks in July at CopperMoon.

So, I remember quite distinctly declaring that one of the things I looked forward to when I moved to Portland was that I'd be slowing down and staying home more and not traveling so much. Heh.
mlerules: (Safe Travels)
A Dear Friend o' mine'll be down yonder for the 1st three (3) weeks of December and wonders what to do and where to go and what's good to eat and such like, so any tips, hints, suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

(I've already suggested Rajun Cajun in Hermosa Beach.)

I really AM working on reducing my travel-load...just not this week so much. This past Sunday I carpooled Northward to CopperMoon w/[livejournal.com profile] lightfoote, then drove back down to the Hive/Portland on Tuesday (day before yesterday). O'morrow I'm driving Northward to CuMoon again, returning again next Tuesday. Then I stay put for the rest of November!

More Travels Plans Under Here )

It's been grey, drizzly, and wet for the past couple of days here in Portland. Forecast claims it's supposed to be clear and mid-70s - mid-80s here this weekend w/nights down to 40s & 50s. Where I'm headed (SoCal), it's forecast to be clear, sunny, and low-mid-80s, cooling off to high 50s/low 60s at night. This'll be a pleasant change. I fully expect the weather to have shifted warmer by the time I return to the PacNW. (Peeks out to see if'n anybody's listening/paying attention ;-)

I'm up and ready to GO!

EDIT: Mid-90s expected in Agoura Hills this Sunday, where the 49th annual Topanga Banjo/Fiddle Contest & Folk Festival will be taking place. I'm torn 'tween wanting to return to this - it's been lots of fun before - and not wanting to swelter so instead heading to the beach (although it's highly likely I'd not be the only one w/this idea...sigh). Will wait & see and do what feels right then...

Off Again

Seems like a while since I've taken off on a trip. (Travel within the PacNW hardly counts ;-) Leaving o'morrow morning, gone for a week. Off-line mostly, 'specially the latter half. Later, 'gators!
mlerules: (Safe Travels)
So, since Hwy 5's now underwater from at least milepoints 68-88 in WA, [livejournal.com profile] lightfoote will instead wing his way down to the Hive and back up to CopperMoon this w'end: WHOO-HOO! This means I shan't be visiting w/[livejournal.com profile] vismaya_viewer, [livejournal.com profile] magickalmom, or [livejournal.com profile] geoffcain this time around. *waves to/at you & hopes to see ya' next time our paths cross*
mlerules: (Maypole)
As of a few years ago at least, 'twas Vancouver, B.C.

Pleased to get to visit up yonder in a couple of months, when the CopperMoon crew (aka [livejournal.com profile] wildwoosi, [livejournal.com profile] lightfoote, and me) head up for V-day w'end 2009. I'm excited, as I haven't been in living memory (although my mom swears I've been there...close to four (4) decades ago). Hoping for good dim sum on Sunday morning and good Italian (w/long-necked Chianti bottles) Sat night...recommendations welcome! Ditto re: where to stay (likely downtown as we wanna take the train train rather than drive up). Thx, LazyWeb!

Here's a link w/all DOTs in the U.S. (plus Puerto Rico): State Transportation Web Sites. Hmm, all of a sudden weather reports matter a whole lot more to me than I'm used to here in SoCal (other than getting to/from Big Bear that is).

Preponing

When all the irate airline customers missed their flight because the plane left early, the woman at the counter cheerfully explained "sorry, the flight was preponed." Real live travel story related tonight. (India circa 1981.) Many many more good stories and tales and discussions and considerations over quite good chow tonight. One of the most pleasant and fun small fambily get-togethers in ages in fact. (Just me, mom, her hubby J, and my l'il bro Gid.) Dinner at Mola (nouvelle Mexican tapas). Dessert and coffee/tea at Alcove (major yum action). I like my fambily.Read more... )

And it's not like I haven't toyed w/the idea of becoming a travel agent before, either. 'Cept it's gotten so not worth it over the years that I'm not gonna bother. Okay, now we're set for the wedding in CT in September, all travelling together (me, [livejournal.com profile] delerium3 and her 'rents) from Burbank to Providence via Phoenix and staying at the same hotel. Must still get rental car...but will let the older gen get their own. Now I wanna shower, hit the Farmer's Market, then head out for a day w/Mom (still dunno what we'll do - ack!) and din-din w/the fambily.
