mlerules: (Bob's Big Boy)
Flew back to the Bay Area today for a few days after a brief return home for an epic concert this past Sunday. Saw Stephen Stills at the Aladdin w/a friend. (Average audience age: bald/grey ;-) His voice was a bit thrashed, but the whole experience was awesome. Yesterday featured sleeping in and a bunch of basketball (go TrailBlazers!).

Nice walk and dinner w/step-sis and her hubby this evening. (Luckily the heat began to break.) Will have breakfast at Homemade Cafe in Berkeley w/former o'morrow, then continue on to SJ for the day and night w/Mom & J. On Thursday I'll start driving Northward. Should arrive home again (home again, jiggidy jig) on Friday, hopefully for a BBQ w/friends. Heading out again on Wed, heading coastal all the way down to Eureka for a wedding over Mem'l Day weekend, returning the Tu (or Wed) after.

Poor health (not mine, but fambily & Dear Friends) means I've decided not to head Back East in July. I will, however, fly Down South (SoCal) for a few days in June. Yes, it's Troubie-time once again: Abbememnon. WheeZoom!

Starting to get bouncy, peppy, happy 'bout my upcoming week in SoCal. Nearly done w/prep work for this year's Troubie's holiday show. A few weeks back I turned [livejournal.com profile] jaylake & [livejournal.com profile] the_child onto the movie A Christmas Story. This past weekend I had the good fortune to snag the final seat available for a fine stage production of West Side Story in downtown Portland. Still want to see Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet (yes, the DiCaprio/Danes version) sometime in the next several days. Anybody interested in joining me?

All this is so I can more fully appreciate and enjoy the Troubadour Theater Company's holiday show this Saturday night: A Christmas West Side Story. Whee!

I've seen many of the Troubies more standard mash-ups of Shakespeare 'n' pop music (such as Fleetwood MacBeth, Twelfth Dog Night, As U2 Like It, A Midsummer's Saturday Night Fever Dream, Romeo Hall & Juliet Oates, and A Wither's Tale - and more), as well as a mess of their holiday shows, including It's A Stevie Wonderful Life, Little Drummer Bowie, A Charlie James Brown X-mas, Frosty the Snow Manilow, and The First Joel. Always fun, always wacky. One thing to keep in mind: DON'T BE LATE!

Today's Answer to SchoolHouse Rock - except it's for kids a bit beyond the lower grades (up to college...and beyond): Hip-Hop Neurology.

This summer the Troubies present: The Maternal Musical that mashes up Sophocles’ “Oedipus the King” with the music of the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley. Oedipus has a Burning Love and he Can’t Help Falling in Love with his Mama. So Don’t Be Cruel and miss this musical parody by the theater company the Los Angeles Times calls “The Masters of Musical Spoofery." OEDIPUS THE KING, MAMA! )

Their winter holiday show: Get Ready to Take a Chance Again on a new musical that melts together the holiday classic “Frosty the Snowman” and the sounds of Barry Manilow. Could It Be Magic when Frosty wakes up Somewhere in the Night on a winter Weekend in New England? Don’t miss this family fun because Frosty Can’t Smile Without You! Yes, it's FROSTY THE SNOW MANILOW )

PSA: Yes, it's time once again for the Troubadore Theater Company's annual Shakespeare/pop music mash-up. Wed. - Sat. 8pm and Sun. 4pm from August 13 - September 14, 2008 at the Falcon Theater in Burbank, CA (across the street from the ORIGINAL Bob's Big Boy). Don't think I'll be going (*sadness*), but if'n you end up going, I'd love to hear all about it.

Especially mega-silly live parody w/great musical numbers. Hence, I thoroughly enjoyed last night's L'il Drummer Bowie put on by the incomparable Troubadour Theater Company. Go! If you missed their last one (Hamlet: The Artist Formerly Known As PRINCE of Denmark), it's returning to the Falcon Theatre next month - check it out! You will laugh, you will cry, you may pee your pants. http://www.falcontheatre.com/ Post-show we hit the closest diner: the original Bob's Big Boy. Never had the fudgy ice cream choco cake thingie (it's got some fancy schmancy name) before. Even after a full meal, we demolished it in record time: YUM!

Next up: Big Bear for crisp cold days (upper 40s) & nights (teens). Huzzah for spending time in the jacuzzi, making and sitting in front of fires, walkies, reading, cooking & eating, making & drinking glogg, catching up, and generally relaxing heavily before the holidaze hit in earnest.

Thank DOG the Britney Spears song I woke up with stuck in my head has stopped.
