Record Album to CD

Rumor has it there's some easy simple conversion device that only costs about $60 bucks and'll letcha burn your records onto CDs. I think it plugs between the turntable (if you remember those) and the computer (which you know about or you wouldn't be reading this probably, unless it's over someone's shoulder), but amn't really sure. I think you don't need any particularly complex software for this to work. But what do I know? My source for such info is off in Oregon for a week, so I'm checking w/you folks on the off-chance you know what I'm talking about and wanna share such knowledge.

I did much the same thing with cassette tapes from my Dad. The essential process was to connect the output of a stereo to the injut of my computer (L/R RCA cable and a RCA->1/8" stereo jack converter -- they also make one cable that does both parts). The tape was played, a program on the computer recorded it as a WAV file which I then chopped at the track breaks into individual WAV files, then dropped down to MP3 as that's what I use most often. Can't remember what I used for the recording or spliting. You might want to ask Joseph as this is one of his areas of exertise.

Many thx for the response. Luckily I managed to find my source (hadn't left for OR yet after all) so now know what to get: the PC interface pre-amp mixer from www.dak2000.com for approx $70. It comes w/software and everything else needed in one thingiemabob. So I'll get it - and my source will help w/it when/as needed, which makes it just the thing.
