The Triton Has Landed

I flew to Phoenix, AZ on Tuesday. We left Phoenix after 5pm that day and just made it home to Portland (late Wed/early Th). I took 2nd shift piloting the MotherShip both yesterday and today, ending right about now (just before 3am) both days, only this time we've landed chez moi-meme in Portland whereas yesterday we slept at the Motel 6 in Buttonwillow (Hwy 5, approx 1 hour South of Harris Ranch). I do so like driving (so long as it doesn't involve too much nasty-@ss traffic). Now my driving experience includes bigger honkier beasties than previously. For the record, the power of a V10 kicks butt (2000 F250 truck). I quite like roaring up the Grapevine and Siskiyou (sp) passes w/out any trouble, blasting good music. Had quite a good time. Now though: SLEEP.

Drum Corps Int'l (DCI)

I spent several hours this evening with (and at the instigation of, b'c he knows I'll try just about anything once) ferociousbcycad, watching the DCI World Championship Quarterfinals broadcast onto the big screen (Lloyd Center Cinema) live from the Rose Bowl. Imagine if you can, a lively combo of marching band w/ drill team, Busby Berkeley-inspired musical numbers (or so it seemed to this observer), synchronized swimming sans H2O, and modern dance. I had a grand time. The audience of approx 200 (in the theatre, there were thousands at the Rose Bowl) helped, as their passion, excitement, and enthusiasm was contagious. Who knew?
