Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Jun. 1st, 2010 12:24 pmThings did NOT go as expected over Mem'l Day weekend, but I had a fine time, nonetheless. I'm back at the Hive now, after flying down from SEA this morning. I took the train up last Thursday. Friday we3 (the Amazing
Several hours later, after becoming intimately acquainted w/the tiny terminal and chit-chatting nicely w/various other travelers, after second breakfasting on the available cuisine (Starbucks next door), after seeing one scout plane take off and return again w/bad news and hearing that t'other one was still trying to get back, while the pilots &c. were meeting to decide what to say/do next, and after weighing various options (involving far longer & more complicated travels then we ultimately had), we decided to bail, snagging 3 of the remaining 5 seats on the day's final remaining Victoria Clipper sailing (passenger ferry to Victoria).
Luckily ALF knows Seattle pretty well, so we walked and bused over to Pike's Place for a numbly lunch before continuing on to the ferry terminal. Of course, when we were nearly to Victoria, we started seeing Kenmore Air float-planes flying overhead. Ah, well...at least we made it w/less stress than we would've had otherwise...and had a good time chatting w/our table-mates on the way over (w/good reco's for other things to do in and around Victoria next time).
We3 curtailed our plans b'c ALF ended up feeling way under the weather. Still, we3 had a fine time at dinner at The Reef on Fri and at breakfast at Mole on Sun, and WW & I enjoyed wandering around town on Sat. We scored an earlier flight back on Sun so had plenty of time to rest up for Mem'l Day's afternoon activities.
