Oh, I've been pretty honest about it here on LJ before so have no problem responding here/now. If'n there's another draft, I want to make sure that it's done fairly/right - for instance, ensuring that there aren't special accommodations made for senator's kids, &c. Several friends and I signed up way back when Bush sent out the Executive Order mandating that all SSS boards be at full capacity again. In fact, I've already served for several years on the local board, but that was back when I lived in SoCal. I've only recently gotten word of a board opening here in Portland, so now'm working on taking up where I left off when I moved.
Works for me in a kind of lesser of evils kind of way. It's either that or join an army to fight an army that tries to force me to join it.
I figure if you can't throw a war that's good enough to get everyone excited about the prospect of killing somebody's family member you probably don't have a war worth fighting.
Finding the imagery of "throwing a war" fascinating. Puts me in mind of a bumpersticker from way back when: "What If You Threw A War & Nobody Showed Up?" Um, that's not gonna happen.
