Yeah, that's the scary part about Prop 8... it allowed a bare majority to vote to refuse or remove the rights of a specific minority group.
If that kind of precedent gets made, then nothing stops people from voting on other minority rights- maybe making it mandatory to speak english to work, for instance- or to require all healthcare workers to be single females... I mean, it /sounds/ so silly, but this isn't really about gay rights- it's about minority rights, and what is a basic human right vs a privledge.
Yes, a great topic, worth following whole heartedly. As may of our founding fathers pointed out, the true ideal of democracy is not how the majority rules, but how the majoritiy respects the rights of minorities. I will continue to watch the Prop 8 issue intensely.
