If'n I still lived in Santa Monica down the street from Track 16 Gallery - and if'n my schedule found me in town - I'd head off this Saturday evening (6-9pm on 10/18/08) to the opening of the new Robbie Conal Retrospective. Well, I will try to make it on the final day of the show (Sat, 11/22/08) w/[livejournal.com profile] hiddentass, assuming he's interested.

He is one of my favorite artists. I've got a signed poster around here somewhere...

Yay!

When I was in the Santa Monica area a few years ago I visited Bergamot Station including the Track 16. I've seen his 'Waiting, Watching and Dreaming' poster. Should be a good exhibit. Hope you make it!

Yup, I'm planning on it! Living near Bergamot Station was one of the things I really liked 'bout living in Sta Monica for nearly a dozen years. The 20 minute walk to the beach didn't hurt either. ;-)

I haven't been there in years, at least not with time on my hands, but Santa Monica has some great galleries. One incredible genre based toy store too, if memory serves...

Methinks you mean Puzzle Zoo. (http://www.puzzlezoo.com/puzzlezoo.htm) Yeah, it's one of the places I stop in when wandering the 3rd Street Promenade. I've got that Saturday to stroll there, walk along the beach, take a ride on the new Ferris wheel, hit other old haunts, and do whatever else strikes my fancy.

Puzzle Zoo could be the place, and 3rd Street Promenade sounds right. But their website doesn't strike any cords. I have a great visual of he place in my head, and it is very SF/comics genre based... Deep stocking of latest action figures, things like that... lots and lots of glass cases...

PZ seems likely the place. Although it could possibly be Giant Robot. (http://www.giantrobot.com/). It's in WLA (micro-Tokyo), not that far from Sta MOnica - come to think of it, for a while they had a store on the promenade as well.

That could be it, not sure. We are talking the early 90's, maybe the late 80's even. Hmmm... The weird thing is, the way my mind works, in that open court yard strip I see in my mind, with the toy store on the east side open to the courtyard facing west, I think once in the general direction, I could walk to it. Names and numbers I have to work at to make them stick. Visuals, art, locations, directions; them durn things stick like glue in my twisted right brained brain...

*nods head* - sounds like Puzzle Zoo from your description of location.

Well, I like the blindfold idea for a number of reasons... but sure, a test would be fun...
