I'm definitely not a plan of this, unless the chemical changes that also occur with memory formation could also be handled.

They talk 'bout memory implants as well as removal. But we're a long way from that now. *** Your comment raises interesting issues: whether the creation of memory X creates a particular set of chemical responses to the entire type of experience, so that anything along such lines will trigger certain responses rather than merely the single one done again.
