Harvesting Purple
Jun. 5th, 2006 09:17 amNiceness. Realized that the bright purple blossoms on all the jacaranda trees meant that the mulberries should be ripening nicely. It's great having some sense of the seasons and the blossoms/fruit connections. Loved heading up to the grove to harvest the deep purple mulberries. They're SO ready: bursting out all over, a layer covering the ground already, tons up in the tree at various stages of ripeness, dozens dropping down onto the ground and my head as I brush beneath the branches. Mulberries are really strange looking creatures - 1" - 6" long and a bit twisted...more than anything they remind me of caterpillars. Slightly squick-making as they launch themselves from their perches onto my head: kamikaze caterpillars landing w/a sticky splat on my face and in my hair. Yeah, I know it's just gravity at work, but still. They're numbly sweet. Will snack on some over yogurt for elevenses later this morning.
Today's a good slow day: laundry, harvesting & beheading mulberries, heading home in the afternoon, and then this evening: Awaken Your Intuition for Health, Healing, and Creativity at UCLA.
