Happy Thanksgiving! Yesterday's drive from SoCal to the Bay Area w/[livejournal.com profile] 1annie1 went amazingly well. For some reason traffic was far lighter than usual/expected, even though we left a bit before 2pm. Stopping for dinner at Harris Ranch (as per tradition) gave Bay Area traffic time to die down, too. Great conversation 'n' music helped the time pass so it felt like only a couple of hours rather than many.

Now I'm happily sitting in [livejournal.com profile] 1annie1's room. It looks much the same as it did lo these many years ago when I first hung out here w/her. The posters on the wall include one I gave her for her 16th b-day over 30 years ago. Last night I enjoyed the lovely views of the city aka SF, the bay, the bridges, &c. A few hours ago, 'twas all completely fogged in, although now it's slowly burning off so parts of the bay're starting to reveal themselves although SF's still hidden.

Life is good. I'm thankful for much: good friends, fambily, health, lotsa independence. And now, to get on w/my day...

Fab food (turkey, stuffing, gravy w/giblets, cranberry sauce, cranberry sorbet, mashed 'taters, butternut squash, brussel sprouts w/walnuts, and mince pie & pumpkin pie w/whipped cream) and great 'n' silly conversation(s). I do so love these fambily dinners. As usual, at some point various folks start pulling out reference books (Columbia Encyclopedia, Signs 'n' Symbols in X-tian Art, OED, biographical dictionary, &c.) to find evidence to support whatever arguments have begun raging over dinner and into dessert 'n' hot tea.

This eve's info-quests included much heated discussion 'bout the relative merits of classes/types of infinite numbers (transcendent numbers > rational & irrational numbers (boring ;-)), queries into the reasons behind the naming of the Virgin Islands leading to who remembers which myths/legends/stories 'bout Saints Ursula (and her 10,000+ virgins), Agnes, &c., the origins of "picayune," history behind the War of Roses, comparisons of 19th century presidents 'n' running mates 'n' various religions from that time (including Christadelphians, which my step-sis's b-friend's fambily'd been), &c.

And now to see 'bout getting fruit stains outta white linen. Will start by dousing w/fizzy water and if'n that doesn't work, may pour boiling water on't from a foot up in the morning. Soon: sleep, perchance to dream.

This morning and early afternoon I spent w/other local fambily, helping prep food 'n' shift furniture 'n' do last minute shopping 'n' flower arranging 'n' looking through my step-neice's frosh St John Univ's lab manual w/such items as Boyle writing 'bout what ultimately became his law and the experiments of his that they'll do to learn 'bout such stuff for themselves. It's all Greek to me ('specially the stuff they're reading in Greek ;-)

Tomorrow = Thanksgiving #2 w/[livejournal.com profile] 1annie1 & fambily. She's my oldest (as in longest in duration) friend. I'll then get to spend another night in her bedroom which hasn't changed much in the past 30+ years, complete w/glow-in-the-dark stars all over the ceiling & gorgeous views of SF &c.

Sat = Dickens w/[livejournal.com profile] dritikol & [livejournal.com profile] deviantgrrrl & whoever else shows up.

Sun = unknown w/various local (Bay Area) fambily

Mon = earliest I'll start heading Northward

Life is good. Fambily is good. I am thankful for much. :-)
