It's just one more paranoia on the part of the State of Corruption currently happening in DC. A pity, too. Most of America will either not be aware of this statement (as I was not until you posted it here) or would be happy to go along with it without a second thought as to the power this gives not only Bush Jr. but all future presidents (who, incidentally will someday be a Democrat).
I'll bet that's something that they're not taking into account. Bush Jr. has stated that this war is currently without end. And he can domestically spy (according to him) without a warrant while this war continues. The time will come when he is no longer president and someone else (possibly a Democrat) is president.
I wonder how all the Bush backers would respond to a Democrat president doing exactly the same thing for exactly the same reasons. But instead are spying on conservative think tanks, various out-spoken conservative individuals, the various conservative religious organizations that do not condemn and may have traffic with domestic terrorists, etc.
Wonder what will happen once the shoe is on the other foot.
