This eve turned into Girlz Night at the Pike in Long Beach - grand fun! After lounging at the pool for a while, we headed out for dinner. At first I (who knows the area best) decided we'd eat dinner at Rockbottom, then realized that it's really a brewery that also serves food so perhaps wasn't quite the best place to take my step-sis, her 5(6?) year old daugher along w/her 13-year old daughter and two of her friends (age 12). So we wandered a few blocks over and hit The Pike for dinner at Islands (perfectly appropriate w/good music playing and vids of chix surfing which went over well) and good conversations - it's been far too long since I've seen this step-sis, even though they only live in SB and it's amusing the common ground I seem able to find w/12 & 13 year old girlz. Then we wandered 'round the arcade playing driving, racing, skateboarding, snowboarding, etc. games before hitting the ferris wheel and carousel and ColdStone Creamery. I actually got my step-sis (who's NOT into heights - to put it mildly) up on the ferris wheel for 4 full rotations before asking the kind man to let us out. (We'd checked w/him ahead of time and he was very understanding and cool w/it which helped matters tremendously.) We were all very proud to have done it together - 3 of us don't care for heights while the other 3 (me included) LOVE 'EM. I'll never forget going around on the FW holding my step-sister's hand and getting her to open her eyes and look out at the lovely sight of the Queen Mary all lit up while we all alternated 'tween giggling and singing "My Girl" at the top our lungs. I feel mega-happy and pleased. Life's goooood.
