Have had a fun bizzy weekend at the HPLovecraft Film Fest (and Cthulhu Con). Might've been fighting something off, too, as I napped more and/or crashed hard earlier than ideal/expected. Not quite sure why I'm up so early now, either, but apparently I am.

Next up: off to a wedding in a castle in WA, carpooling w/[livejournal.com profile] delerium3. Dunno whether we'll drive back afterwards or find a place to stay somewhere up yonder and return o'morrow. Either way, mebbe we'll see a few stragglers zoom overhead tonight from the weekend's ETA Aquarid meteor shower. O'morrow night: Iron Man 3...whee!

Weather continues in the mid-80s, which strikes me as warmer than usual for early May. My plants're loving it. Sadly, my lawnmower's in the shop 'til the 22nd, which means it'll be a helluva 2nd mow when it's released from its hospital holding pen. Yeah, I got in one mow before it gave up the ghost, but it's gonna be nearly knee-high by then. Eep!

A couple of quickies from the weekend, w/s'more to come later:

Ganked from an LJ-free friend on FB:

"As for the Republicans — how can one regard seriously a frightened, greedy, nostalgic huddle of tradesmen and lucky idlers who shut their eyes to history and science, steel their emotions against decent human sympathy, cling to sordid and provincial ideals exalting sheer acquisitiveness and condoning artificial hardship for the non-materially-shrewd, dwell smugly and sentimentally in a distorted dream-cosmos of outmoded phrases and principles and attitudes based on the bygone agricultural-handicraft world, and revel in (consciously or unconsciously) mendacious assumptions (such as the notion that real liberty is synonymous with the single detail of unrestricted economic license or that a rational planning of resource-distribution would contravene some vague and mystical 'American heritage'…) utterly contrary to fact and without the slightest foundation in human experience? Intellectually, the Republican idea deserves the tolerance and respect one gives to the dead." - HP Lovecraft to C.L. Moore (August 1936)
