A friend - who lives in Fresno, CA - is looking around at different grad school programs and wondering 'bout options. Read at link for details and if'n you've got ideas, feel free to respond in his comments (or here in mind and I'll fwd 'em to him). Thanks for your help!

Hi, I'm another of MLE's friends looking to get an MFA at a low-res program. I've done a bit of research in the matter...and there are a lot of options. If cost is no issue, Warren Wilson's program has a great rep. Even though it doesn't have a great rep (it doesn't have a bad one, either) I'm looking at Goddard's program, primarily because I can drive to the residency. I also like the look of the Antioch LA program, which you would be able to drive to. I have to say, Antioch appeals partly because my father, who was an alum and adjunct faculty at USC, really spoke highly of Antioch in general. Plus, airfare to LA is at least reasonable AND my family is nearby (I'm from Bakersfield).

I would love to connect with you and maybe do some joint research and chatting about the options (or anyone else who wants to join the discussion). BTW, I'm a poet, though I dabble a bit in fiction.

NO residence, an accredited university, and a faculty with degrees from some great universities.

I find it interesting, though, that a couple members of the faculty received their own MFAs from Alabama. Unfortunately, UA's MFA program is residence only, and frankly, in Alabama. Not a happy place for those of us who belong to the acronym club.
