Sometimes you get stuck in rut w/badness/angst and cannot recall the good times (even if'n not very long ago) or conjure up upcoming good times. At these times, your emotional working memory needs a jog. Music may work. Or good smells. Getting out and ridding yr mind of cobwebs may well, too.

I try to keep photos around. That way if I'm in a funk and feel like no one loves me, I can look at photos of me with friends. Of course, even that doesn't always help if the funk is very stubborn...

Ah, another very good way to combat the blues - thx for the good 'n' wise suggestion.

I try to get moving - cleaning, dancing, exercising, something. Or I shake up my routine and do something I don't normally do. The novelty seems to feed my brain and reset it nicely. Yesterday's cheap seats movie was just the ticket to banish my blues.

Yeah, the getting moving will indeed work...but it's often precisely what I have a hard time doing. And since I really don't have a routine, doing something I don't normally do ain't so easy to find...although heading out to Powell's downtown this afternoon seemed to do the trick nicely.

Glad that yesterday's cheap seats movie worked wonders for you!

I find that getting outside and going walkabout often clears away the mental funk and cobwebs, even if all I do is walk around the neighborhood... There are always new things to look at, plants doing new things, or by travelling a different route, there are new yards and gardens to look at. And if all else fails, I look at the sky, it is like the ocean for me, though not as pleasant smelling, but always there and always changing... somehow this helps

I do the same thing myself, but I've never articulated it quite like this, so thanks for the insight along such realms...much appreciated. :-)

I actually made a "good times" memory list years ago in a therapy arc that I still use today. It hasn't always been as helpful as I'd like but just the idea of sifting through little recollections that made/make me smile is helpful.

Best wishes for good sifting...hugs.
