Yeah, it's a small backward zoom, 'bout all I'm capable of right now. The BiZZZy Time has once again descended. My swell plan of managing my calendar so I'd spend every other weekend at home has, once again, in the words of the immortal poet, gang aft agley. *sigh*
But not a sigh of displeasure, merely of weariness. And not weariness of the soul, for my soul's actually soaring along aloft quite nicely, as circles within circles've connected quite nicely this evening, when folks who know folks I know in SoCal ended up here, doing things* they do in SoCal here in PDX for a change, and we chatted...and once again I realize that indeed It's A Small World After All. This makes me happy. And pleased. Still, a weariness of the body and of the mind has come over me, so I'll make this brief. (Heh...those who read along know what B.S. this'll likely end up being ;-)
I'd fully intended to write up an account of this past weekend's Grand Fun & Adventures in the Bay Area w/
lightfoote and LJ-free D&B (w/extra time for me w/fambily). But now I'm faced w/a bed covered w/stuff to pack (all my synthetic tops 'n' bottoms 'n' footsies 'n' such like) for the upcoming Lake Ozette canoodling scouting adventure. And tomorrow's my volunteering over at PCC from 9-11:50am followed by lunch w/fambily followed by driving Northward to Bellevue and thence CopperMoon. And I'm tired.
So another day mebbe I'll go on at length 'bout how fun 'twas to rely just on public transportation (and my own two legs) to get from home at the Hive in Portland to PDX last Friday, as well as from OAK - SF (Fri), all around SF (Fri, Sat & Sun), back across the bay to Berkeley and Albany (Sun), before finally succumbing to easiness (although I could've cont'd the trend) and accepting a ride from pseudo-step-bro to brunch w/'rents and then to OAK for my return home yesterday (Mon).
We stayed at the Inn on Castro, a nice B&B in a fab location. blah blah blah met good people w/interesting stories blah blah blah Ate well, including Sat dinner at Absinthe. Enjoyed Tales of the City: A New Musical. It's not great, but it's great fun. And since reading the stories as they came out in serialized form in the Chronicle had been part of my growing up in the Bay Area (and loving the PBS mini-series from the early '90s as well as the books), 'twas just something I felt I HAD to do...and'm glad I did!
After the show, we entered the surreal 'n' silly tiki lounge world of the Tonga Room. Imagine, if'n you will, the large tiki god looming over you as you enter to sit on red-vinyl upholstered cushions beneath masts from an actual former schooner that'd sailed 'tween S.F. and the South Seas way back when, by the dance floor where folks boogied down to classic '70s 'n' '80s cover hits played by the band in the boat out on the pool, where sets began and ended w/pouring down rain. My drink - a Pineapple Punch - came in an entire hollowed-out pineapple w/several straws and tiny paper umbrellas. 'Twas truly a Tiki Paradise!
We danced, and laughed, and talked, and people-watched (and were watched, as ALF had worn his great coat, black tights, tall boots, and ruffled shirt, so looked quite piratey and fully at home by the masts and boat stuff; several prom girls surreptitiously snapped pics when I had him pose by the mast and the boat w/band inside in the background). Somebody kept us on track, luckily, as we managed to catch the last cable car down the hill, thence the last muni-car back to our B&B. Perfect timing...as appropriate for paradise! ;-P
Friday featured much walking around the Castro, and admiring the old mint - stopping to chat w/a guard 'bout what still goes on there and the fact that it's still the 2nd most secure federal site (Ft Knox = #1), as they still mint collectors coins upstairs. We wandered over to Duboce Park, where we stopped to admire much playful puppiness, which is what stopped us from being right under this huge-@ss tree which split into 3 huge pieces w/a terrible creaking sound as it crashed down boom to the ground. Luckily - and amazingly - nobody was hurt. I took a few pics, too. After that, we ret'd to our B&B, somewhat shaken (and more than a bit stirred up ;-), but still admiring the lovely bright colorful houses. (I'd link to more pics, but iPhoto's no longer playing nice w/Flickr or FB since I updated to the "new 'n' improved" (NOT!) Firefox.)
Oh, yeah, there was also frisbee playing in front of LSB at UCB, plus Top Dog enjoyment. And good fambily visiting. And admiring the view from the tower at the top of the De Young (FREE to do!). And scoring free admission to SF's Botanical Garden (I waved around my membership cars to Huntington Gardens and PDX's Chinese and Japanese Gardens and they waved us both through). And finding great food over on the Park Blocks. And much more...
*Tonight I enjoyed Tales of the Extraordinary, which'll be up in Seattle this Sunday eve at Re-Bar. If'n I were up yonder, I'd go to that show, too, but I shan't be, so I shan't go.
Now though, I'm gonna go to bed. After I clean off all the carp...
Satisfied *yawn*.

Date: 2011-05-29 03:11 pm (UTC)Methinks e-mail'd be best, as my Time to Talk in the foreseeable future tends to be when you're At Work, which really ain't gonna work. Zoom = name of game, and I'm interested in What's New and Happening in your life. :-)
Thx - and backatcha w/knobs on!
