So, this morning I did something incredibly stupid RIGHT IN FRONT OF A COP...yet nada happened. Then I got home from my last minute errands and noticed a nasty-@ss smell. The drain that'd gotten clogged in the basement (which has happened before) now appears to be oozing sewage (which has NOT happened before)! And I've gotta leave the house in <1/2 hour to bus/Max/plane to SEA for the (long) weekend. Gah!

I've left an urgent phone msg and sent a descriptive e-mail to the landladies. Hopefully they'll be able to get this dealt with and resolved SOON.

Talk 'bout balancing the incredibly good w/the nastily bad!

Ithink those old drains inthe basement need a bend to them that doesn't allow gas leakage. The new ones have them but on old houses they usually jack hammer up the floor and put a new one in. Is it leaking sewage gas or the sewage itself?

this is car boy and percolator cork for beer brewing. I wonder if they make a product inspired by this for your drain or if you could hack one?
A cork goes into the drain with a central outlet for gas that goes into a ail filled with booze or bleach then another pail is upside down to catch the airbubbles and slow dow their expression and maximize exposure to the cleaner.

or could the sewer line get tapped outside ex[ernally from the house so that there is a pressure release that is not in your basement?

It's the stuff itself that's stinking, not just gas...

The LLadies've promised to have it dealt with soon...

Ugh, that's awful. But I honestly don’t believe that that's how the universe works.

Neither do I, but it gives me something to go on about rather than worry 'bout the stanky stuff...

Gotcha. I was just concerned you were somehow blaming yourself. *love*
