Last week in Seattle, [livejournal.com profile] dritikol, [livejournal.com profile] deviantgrrrl, [livejournal.com profile] lightfoote, and I went out and enjoyed classic cocktails at Little Red Bistro (tip of hat to [livejournal.com profile] lightfoote for the suggestion) followed by a trip to Vessel (thanks to the reco of Brandon/Brendon, bartender there & at LRS).

Tonight, some things I've hung onto for yonks have finally come into their own. I've had this cocktail shaker for years. Ditto other related items. Now, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] dritikol, much of my bar has finally come together, blended well (sometimes stirring, sometimes shaking ;-), fruitfully, and tastily.

No drunken debauchery here. We made each drink singly then split 'em up four (4) ways into shot glasses (same compatriots as last week in Seattle 'cept w/LJ-less L in place of [livejournal.com profile] lightfoote). (Less successful experiments got tossed out rather than back.) Silliness and happiness abounded. Heck, it still does. Now, [livejournal.com profile] dritikol's reading Boozehound aloud. I'm pleased and happy having Dear Friends visit me at the Hive from SoCal.

Sampled this evening (courtesy of Drink Boy and The Joy of Mixology:

Daquiri
The Last Word
Pegu Club (sub lemon for lime)
Nicky Finn (the eve's fave cocktail)
Oregon Squirrel (a Very New Hive-Created(tm) Cocktail)
Bush Pilot (an Unfortunate Merging/Misread of an Alaska & an Aviation...Oops)
Between the Sheets
Nicky Finn ('twas the night's fave, after all!)
And finally: Taboo Absinthe...mmmmm.

Earlier this summer, in trying to make tomato jelly, I ended up with syrup instead. Whilst bemoaning that on LJ, some of my local friends commented about various drinks that would be possible with such. I promptly handed off a jar to one of them, (He and his wife are really into the tiki lifestyle and enjoy coming up with interesting alcohol combinations) and last week he posted the results of one of his experiments:

"Hot Monkey"

* 2 oz. golden tomato syrup
* 1 oz. reposado tequila
* 1 oz. pepper vodka (I used Hot Monkey)
* 2-3 dashes Fee Brothers celery bitters

(his comments)"It was maybe a little sweet for my taste, although the spiciness of the vodka offset it pretty well. The tomato-i-ness was really tasty, and the celery bitters add a little extra vegetable kick."
