Minor Argh
Jul. 28th, 2005 06:00 pmFly in otherwise sweet-smelling and pleasantly-applied ointment: I'm sitting here, tip-tapping and reading away at LJ and checking out newstories and whatnot, when YahooMessenger goes PING and tells me I've got mail...which I can't get to at this computer b'c Yahoo Mail's all wonky on (only) this machine. At least I have the option of travelling to the laptop in the next room (when it's not in use), but it's frustrating, 'specially when I'm hoping it's from a real live person and it's only an ad for whassup at the local art flimhouse.
D'oh - spaced: lunched w/one of my Mac-Geek friends today and it never came up. Really, though, we had FAR better things to catch up on than e-mail issues. It's been MONTHS since we've had a chance to talk - her work's kept her busy on Catalina, in the Bahamas, and recently at a conference on Maui. Which raises an obvious qx: why didn't I major in Marine Bio? Ah, well, another MacGeek friend returns this w'end, so mebbe I'll bribe him w/din-din at Rajun Cajun (he's so easy) and have him take a gander at whassup.
Quickie: "changeable as the weather" means very little in SoCal. Ooh, it's 3 degrees warmer today than yesterday. Ooh, the fog burned off at 11:30am rather than Noon. You want weather, head East young man. On Cape Breton, the saying went "if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes." Of course this didn't mean it'd be BETTER, only different. We experienced this in quite delightful fashion one eve last summer when we headed down for a beach BBQ (8 min walk from the house) in bright sunny weather which quickly (as soon as the fire was ready to cook over) turned into a huge thunderstorm. Much giggling ensued, soon devolving into laugh out loud so hard it hurt. The cooking then included holding a makeshift tarp over the fire, the food, and my step-mom cooking, w/periodic dumpings of excess water, usually down her or my or my step-sis's back, usually all together. As soon as the food was ready, it cleared up, leaving us drenched, but still fairly warm, eating dinner w/a bald eagle sitting high up in the tree down the beach, eyeing us w/disbelief and amusement (hard to read an eagle's features/moods, even though we saw him - and his ilk- quite a bit, finally spotting his nest on one of our canoeing trips, over near the white jelly spawing grounds.)
