Good day. Tired now. Driving home from Sidhehaven this evening, I experienced nostalgia for nostalgia when I started driving up a now-familiar climb (but not often taken at night - Hwy 5 in WA nr MP54/55 rest area) and remembered the nostalgic feeling I had when driving over the Sepulveda Pass (heading South) one of my recent trips back to SoCal, knowing I was nearly to the Santa Monica Fwy (Hwy 10 aka the Christopher Columbus Transcontinental Highway) and nearly home...then in my mind's eye I traveled a bit further, up through the McClure Tunnel and out t'other side onto PCH and looking out over the lovely view of the beach and the Pacific Ocean and Malibu beyond, imagining it w/fog at times, and in the bright sunshine, and at sunset...memories flooded back. Sunsets over the ocean. Beach walks. Ferris wheel rides. Bittersweet.
Then I started once again anthropomorphizing L.A./SoCal, remembering that night several years back at the Orb concert in the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown L.A.. The show began at Midnight and went on for hours, 'til 'twas light out. At some point that night, I realized that I was breaking up w/L.A., experiencing those same feeings of grief, and rightness, and excitement of the unknown that was ahead of me (turns out 'twas moving to and living up here in the PacNW). Tonight, I felt the sweetness of what living there had been, w/out the pain-in-the-buttness. I like reaching this point, where the good memories outweigh the bad. Again w/the bittersweetness...again w/the far more sweet than bitter...
Oooh, the miracle of the internet meant 'twas easy to find the date of that show: Sunday, March 19, 2006, Midnight to 6 AM - The Orb, Dntel, John Tejada, Boom Bip (part of the Minimalist Jukebox series). The following morning, most folks in our gang went to sleep, but
nightrythm and I stayed up in the backyard of the Neighbor of the Beast, sitting under the big tree, talking and being quiet together, watching the light strengthen and the day dawn. Eventually we all headed out for b-fast/lunch/mid-day meal at Foxy's in Glendale.
And now, to sleep, perchance to dream...
I miss you,
nightrythm.
