Jumping Through Hoops
Oct. 22nd, 2009 01:38 pmI'm tired of performing. Started wondering a l'il while ago why I'm procrastinating on studying for my quizzes for class. Have figured out it's b'c what I'm interested in is learning the stuff, not necessarily getting a good grade. I've spent enough time in school to know the difference. Yet I'm feeling the pressure to perform...and it bugs me lots. And now it's too late to switch over to auditing the class or to drop it altogether. *sigh* My patience has worn thin...

Date: 2009-10-22 09:52 pm (UTC)I'm studying now at least, stuffing facts into my brain. All that matters for the quiz is that I remember 'em and recall 'em for the next few hours. Then they can disperse and disappear, w/all that's left a vague overall sense of what happened when and in relation to what - and that's all I really want/need.

What're you thinking of going back to school to study, anyway? (Mebbe you said here sometime back, but I miss stuff sometimes.) What sort of degree is it that'll make you more marketable?

Also, what is the etiquette for auditing a class? Do you just find out when and where to go and show up randomly? Do you email the prof and get permission? Does it cost anything usually? Are you allowed to attend every class? That might be a great way for me to continue my education, because I don't care about getting a degree but I would love to continue learning...and doing it for free is really all I can afford these days.

Date: 2009-10-22 09:48 pm (UTC)Dunno what it's like down in SoCal these days. It used to be cool just to sit in - after checking w/the prof, of course. Or not, actually. I used to sit in now and again on O-Chem lecture @ UCSC b'c I had friends in it and it seemed like fun. I even remember getting a question right on a test b'c I'd learned about it from lecture! 'Twasn't a curve-graded test, so 'twas cool, even though the prof didn't know there was an extra person in class.)

Salt and two cents.. :)
