It's Fall out now. The days're getting shorter and cooler, but the sun still makes a daily appearance and it's not actually cold out yet. The past few days the sun and rain have danced in and out of clouds all day, taking turns repeatedly. Quite schitzo. Quite lovely.

I've been devouring Comfort Brain Food(tm) w/the kittenheads clustering 'round, spending hours alternating 'tween the couch and the tub - where I used up nearly the very last of my fave bubbly bath stuff - re-reading EF Benson's Queen Lucia. Will continue on w/the series (Lucia in London's next), but'll catch up some w/the other books I'm currently reading as a breather.

Synchronicity has kicked in with t'other books I'm currently reading, as they're both concerned w/music and obsession and how these impact one's life, universe, and everything: Oliver Sacks' Musicophilia and Hermann Hesse's Gertrud. Read more of the latter over numbly French onion soup this evening before taking a nice neighborhood stroll.

Really nice catching up w/a couple of good friends last night when [livejournal.com profile] ferociousbcycad and [livejournal.com profile] poeticlioness came over and we headed out to the Bagdad for dinner.

Hmm, this is disjointed. Now starting at the beginning of the w'end:

Last Wed (09/02/09) I drove Northward to fetch the Amazing [livejournal.com profile] lightfoote (ALF) and her Wildness [livejournal.com profile] wildwoosi (WW) from work, whence we3 headed West to Seattle for a good happy hour dinner at Maximilien's and some fun browsing 'n' shopping.

When Th (09/03/09) rolled around, I decided I'd grown tired of always driving Hwy 5 - yeah, it's far lovelier up here then down in central CA, but I was still DONE w/it. [livejournal.com profile] lightfoote was game, so we headed Westward s'more and took Hwy 101 Southward, stopping for a numblicious dinner of grilled oysters, sauteed oyster tacos, and clam chowder in South Bend, WA before settling down for the night in Astoria, OR. This actually worked out quite nicely as we got to celebrate our AstoriaVersary after all. (Astoria's the site of our 1st date nearly two (2) years ago and it wasn't looking like we'd make it out yonder this Fall after all, so huzzah for serendipity and timing and last minute shifts in plans making this possible.)

We walked 'round town some Thursday aft/eve, admired the view (setting sun and rising Full Moon) from the rooftop hotel patio, then settled in to watch Shakespeare In Love.

Friday morning, as per tradition, we visited Coffee Girl for coffee. I told 'em 'twas our anniversary so they stamped my coffee card FULLY so when we return next year the coffee'll be FREE. What a lovely 'n' nice 'n' friendly place!

On the lovely drive back to Portland, we stopped off at various roadside stands for fresh local fruit. This came in handy as we got invited over to Petting Zoo for dinner ([livejournal.com profile] delerium3 made African noodles w/some great additions) & silliness that night. I used the fresh fruit to make a peach-blueberry crisp for dessert. We talked, cooked, ate, caught up, laughed, then enjoyed watching several episodes of Firefly together. Doesn't matter how much I watch these shows; I love 'em anew each time - and still catch stuff I'd missed before, too. Good writing and character development pleases me.

Saturday ended up being for sleeping in, late breakfast at Cricket Cafe, much napping (with quotes and without ;-) and more Firefly. We opted to skip the Detention Hall/Schoolgirl party in favor of thoroughly enjoying - and not rushing - dinner &c. together. ALF made a delightfully tasty repast of grilled salmon, steamed beets (which I'd just harvested from the CuMoon garden), and risotto using freshly grated parmesan cheese and leftover lamb stock from a previous Hive date. I do so like food that continues its usefulness in meals even well after the fact!

On Sunday, ALF flew back Northward to CopperMoon and I ended up having dinner w/good friends (as noted above).

Now it's Monday and I'm home 'til leaving mid-afternoon this Thursday for the Bay Area and various b-day celebrations: dinner w/we3 @ Deetjens in Big Sur on Fri, 09/11; then RenFaire and a late b-day dinner w/Mom & J on Sat, 09/12; then Solano Stroll and perhaps dinner w/my step-sis and hubby on Sun, 09/13; then b-day brunch w/Mal 'n' Al in Berkeley on Mon, 09/14, after which WW flies back to SEA whilst ALF & I return to PDX to spend some good kittenhead-time and then camp for a couple of days in OR before hooking back up w/WW to celebrate their 1st HandFasting Anniversary back at Breitenbush for the weekend of 09/18-20/09. Phew!

My History of Oregon class @ PCC/SE starts the following Thursday, 09/24 and'll keep me busy Thursday evenings (6-9:50pm) 'til mid-December. I'm excited 'bout this!

Jealous! Maximilien's is da bomb. There is a waiter there who I wish was on the menu...along with the pear tarte and chocolate mousse.
