PING Fibromyalgia-Familiar Folks

A friend of mine just posted this on LJ, so I thought I'd ask further afield as well:

anyone ever try 5-htp?
Seems it is an over the counter amino acid that can help with fibromyalgia.
I just want to know more about it.

Thx much for sharing any experience you may have had w/this stuff.

I take it, but I don't have fibromyalgia... but it was recommended to me by someone who DOES suffer from it. It does make my whole world better, though.

I don't know anything useful about fibromyalgia, but 5-HTP is essentially serotonin, and should be used with caution, because it can have all the same side effects as SSRIs. I react very badly to SSRIs -- it makes me suicidal -- and any kind of 5-HTP or 5-HT has the same effect.
