Recent Past & Future Goings-On
Mar. 2nd, 2009 12:07 pmLast Thursday I got to enjoy the sight of snow on the trees and the side of the road (luckily not in/on the road) as I drove up to gather the Amazing
lightfoote (ALF) from work and carpool down to the Hive for a long date weekend together. On the way up I stopped off for a delightful visit w/
vismaya_viewer. We headed out for lake walkies featuring the world's tiniest snowman, a HUGE bald eagle, numerous smaller birdies, lovely budding trees, and a stroll around the ruins of part of the former Western State Hospital - a good Nature fix w/giggling and chatting. Clickie for Pickies Then we lunched on her numbly homemade ground nut soup and mouth-watering ginger-infused mead truffles w/strawberries and the mini-pound cakes (I made these last ones). On the way down,
lightfoote and I got to dine and visit w/
skarlett, always a pleasure.
'Twas a delicious weekend featuring much superlativeness in various forms, such as spending productive time outside pruning plants in my front and back yards, celebrating ALF's upcoming b-day early w/dinner & dessert at Papa Haydyn, driving up the Columbia River Gorge to hike to and enjoy Elowah Falls - "Clickie for Pickies, learning how to make (and fully chowing down on) tortilla soup and flan - ALF made both/all of this, although I made guacamole to tide us over 'til soup was ready and provided heppful suggestions along the way. We ended the time together w/the traditional tea & tea-snacks at the Teahouse in the Tower of Cosmic Reflection at the Portland Classic Chinese Garden before parting at the train station a few blocks away. It's really marvelous visiting the garden every few weeks as the shifting seasons stand out so nicely. Plants're budding nicely, smells're getting stronger, everything's starting to wake up, to poke heads up, to toss off the mantel of Winter and get back into the swing of things.
Various options for upcoming things include experiencing yet again the March Fourth Marching Band sometime in the next few days (likely on March 4th itself), and perhaps checking out the wackiness of the Portland Urban Iditarod on March 14.
Life is good, varied, interesting, instructive, exciting.
