In the process of trying to twist the top of the pepper grinder to produce more ground pepper I managed instead to unscrew the entire top and strew black peppercorns across the stove, onto the floor, and into the 7-Veggie Casserole I'm making for potluck tonight. I chose to burst into laughter rather than tears. It was pretty amusing...and there's nothing I could do about it once it'd happened. (I'll be aware of this and work to avoid such mishaps in the future.) I'll just warn tonight's casserole takers of the peppercorn possibility. Hmm, mebbe I'll come up w/some folk wisdom about how it's good luck to find a peppercorn in your portion. It shouldn't be too bad as they'll've been baked at 350 for an hour inside a casserole of veggies (w/cous cous lining the dish), although I do expect it to taste more peppery than usual.

D'oh! I always do that with cinnamon, for some reason. Always tap tap tap to get more to come out, then bunches spill out.

Mmm, more pepper sounds just fine to me, though some wisdom to back up the spiciness never hurts. ;o)

Please to share the recipe for your casserole of peppery veggie doom? *batting eyes*

It's [livejournal.com profile] lightfoote's recipe (w/my specially peppery additions this one time ;-) and it can be found in his LJ-recipe blog HERE. The peppercorns'd softened considerably in the baking process so it worked out fine. Good thing, too, as the one thing I've been wanting to do/with this recipe is add a bit more flavor. Guess I should careful what I wish for... (http://community.livejournal.com/amazingepicurea/1424.html)

Concurrence! Pepper is one of the proofs that things are right with the Universe.

Oh shoot... I've had that happen before... I'm sure it will be completely yummy anyway!

'Twas indeed tasty and they'd softened up nicely in the baking.

Heh, you don't remember so well. I did that stunt in front of you (possibly with the same pepper grinder) years ago :-) At least you were seasoning a full batch, *I* was just seasoning my serving.

It sounds like a lovely recipe.

Oh, I remember full well that incident...it almost made it into my post, but I chose not to embarrass you potentially as well as myself, letting you choose to do so all on your own. ;-P
