Best Place to Live (2005) & A Request for Local Reco's

As of a few years ago at least, 'twas Vancouver, B.C.

Pleased to get to visit up yonder in a couple of months, when the CopperMoon crew (aka wildwoosi, lightfoote, and me) head up for V-day w'end 2009. I'm excited, as I haven't been in living memory (although my mom swears I've been there...close to four (4) decades ago). Hoping for good dim sum on Sunday morning and good Italian (w/long-necked Chianti bottles) Sat night...recommendations welcome! Ditto re: where to stay (likely downtown as we wanna take the train train rather than drive up). Thx, LazyWeb!

The Geek and I were going to take my birthday in Vancouver the Northern a few years ago but my Dad got sick and we had to cancel. However, we got a stinkin' hotel deal on Hotwire.com. I use them for work and have gotten hotels like the US Grant in San Diego for $89 a night (regularly $400). It's worth a look-see anyway.

As for eating, we were going to eat at Lumiere. It's run by a chef whom we saw on Iron Chef who happens to be a friend of a friend. It's not Italian, but it does come well recommended, as does their cafe that is right next door. It might be an idea for lunch... http://www.dbbistro.ca/
