It amuses me greatly that it's apparently the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival & CTHULHU CON. Friends're heading up from SoCal for the whole w'end (October 3-5, 2008). I'll join them for the Friday night (fingers crossed for a good selection of showings then), then zoom up to CopperMoon on Saturday for din-din (likely again at Everett Kitchen) and the Gaia Consort concert.

My father was the set designer on this locally made independant film.

I figured that you would like it. It is a fairly faithful film to the story it was based on ("The Thing on the Doorstep") except for the setting being modern. Considering that the budget was only $10,000 they did not have a lot left over for things like special effects, so it relies mostly on things like lighting and acting to properly convey the horror. In my opinion, this is as it should be for a Lovecraft-based film, since much of Lovecraft's best horror is the kind where you cannot quite see the supernatural on the other side of the thin veil of human reason.

So many things competing with the Avery Faire! I have always wanted to go to the Lovecraft Festival, I have a certain affinity for Chuck... and Mike Mignola is a guest. But alas, maybe next year. There are a lot of fan and semi-pro Lovecraft movies out there, I would love to see reviews...
