CORN IN!

Summertime ain't summertime for me 'til I've enjoyed two (2) things: (1) Cold watermelon on a hot afternoon and (2) Fresh corn on the cob (boiled or grilled) slathered w/butter and sprinkled w/salt and freshly ground pepper. So far this summer I've done the former but not the latter. Now though I've got a shot at harvesting, cooking, and eating corn I've planted (although mebbe not 'til Fall - I'm really not sure how long it takes to grow and mature). When Her Wildness ([livejournal.com profile] wildwoosi) and [livejournal.com profile] lightfoote asked me months ago what I'd like planted in the garden, I enthusiastically replied "CORN!" So, after several hours of hard labor prepping the soil w/the Amazing LightFoot during the heat of the day yesterday, we've got corn planted. I'm excited!

Meanwhile, the baby llama's learned how to SPROING and continues its mega-cuteness. Wiggles & Thumps was a blast, even though I slept through the whole nekkid slip 'n' slide session. Hmm, it's nice and sunny out, so mebbe I'll have a go at it later this afternoon...

Today's unscheduled for hours and hours ('til 1pm anyway). Yay for Down Time, that rare commodity. Off to Home (South) at the Hive o'morrow (via Amtrak) for a full week+ 'til we leave for FaerieWorlds - whoo-hoo!

You have llamas? I think I need to spend some time reading your LJ to learn more.

Heh, it's sorta complicated. My stuff (including kittenheads Fargo & Havana) resides at the Hive in Portland, OR. I'm even there sometimes myself. ;-P Much of my time though is spent w/my loves [livejournal.com profile] lightfoote and [livejournal.com profile] wildwoosi at their place outside Seattle, WA. They've got llamas (including the l'il one), a garden, an orchard, tons of trees, and a stream on 20 lovely acres. Oh, did I mention that I'm poly?

Ok, so that makes a bit more sense now. I'll still do some back trcking and poke you if I have any questions.

For now I'll start with how do you do the long distance poly thing? I see that you spend time there, but what about work and Hive needs? Do you have another person that lives at the Hive to take care of kittehs and daily stuff?

Luckily I don't have to work (nowadays), which makes life far easier (for now anyway). The kittenheads're fine for a w'end on their own. For longer trips (such as to Vegas & SoCal), I have several friends who'll pitch in and help. Some folks have come down for a week at a time to house/cat-sit and enjoy Portland (it's a FAB city). [livejournal.com profile] delerium3 will help out for much of September when I'm gone a whole bunch. Long-term I'm not quite sure how this'll work out w/the kittenheads. I've been spending approx 2 weekends a month up here at CopperMoon (w'end = Th - Mon, if not Wed - Tu ;-) since last October. Eventually I may move up here, but I'm not ready for it yet. For the time apart, thank goodness for e-mail, IM, LJ, and the telephone!

Not working sounds lovely. Lot's of time for travel! And it's great to have friends pitch in.

It was good to see you this weekend! I hope the '3 sisters' companion planting works well and your hard labor pays off with yummy corn to eat this fall. As for nekkid slip 'n' sliding, [livejournal.com profile] magickalmom shot some video of us playing if you wanted to see the fun we had; I'm sure it's just what I need saved for posterity, while imagining the footage being played at my funeral. ;o)

Hey, no wonder I missed seeing you - you were snoozing - and then we didn't stay long after the slipping and sliding was done.

Let me know if you ever need more house/pet sitters at the Hive!
