It'd hit 90 before 9am when we left Redding. Thank goodness for heading East on Hwy 44, deciding to heck w/schedules 'n' itineraries, and visiting (for the 1st time in 30+ years) Lassen Nat'l Park (by which time 'twas only 77 degrees out - yay, elevation!) We splashed about in Manzanita Lake and saw much wonderful flora and fauna, including a baby beaver. 'Tis lovely, even the devastated bits and Bumpass Hell. We enjoyed alpine lakes and meadows and wildflowers and chipmunks and and and...and there was snow - lots of snow - five (5) foot+ drifts of snow. To top it all off, the temps topped out at 82. *bliss* Sure, later on when we descended from elevation, it ended up over 100 again, but we were nicely mellow and relaxed by then. Just made it to Bishop after a quickie dinner stop in Reno, NV. Re: NV - ya' know how your mom always said if'n you can't say something nice about some-one/thing it's best not to say anything at all? Well, at least the gas prices're good in Reno ($4.15/gallon). O'morrow: Las Vegas or bust, baby! I LOVE TOAD-RIPPING!
