They say the early bird gets the worm, but today, up here in the heavily misting PacNW (at CopperMoon), the late risers're enjoying some tender tasty treats. I believe that a mess of worms is a sign of a healthy garden (or at least soil, 'cause nothing's growing there yet). Well then, the first bed at least is showing signs of mighty healthiness and robins keep clustering on the fence, waiting for me to leave so they can feast on pink and grey earthworm flesh w/out distraction. There'll still be plenty for the bed/soil/plants, but I'm kinda liking this whole circle of life thingiemabob.

So far today I weeded one bed, fed the weeds to the chickens (which I've named - even if nobody else pays attention - Fryer, Fricassee, Broiler, Stuffed, Kebab, and Spreckles), then turned the soil in the bed (thusly feeding the robins). Now that I've enjoyed a spot of tea and PB-cheesy toast, I'll move onto baking almond butter cake for potluck tonight then weeding and turning the second (of four) garden bed or vice versa.

LOL

Your naming convention is magnificent.

Thx. Figured it's just better this way. First they're layers, but after that, it's not gonna be pretty.

My chicken's name was Beercan. I named her that after my Indian friend noticed that English speakers in the Carribean say "bacon" the way he says "beercan": "BEE-uh-kahn". And also for beercan chicken!

That's funny!

But what's beercan chicken?

A roasted chicken with beer in the can put in the cavity. Such as this. Prepare to laugh hysterically..

I'm always hesitant to name livestock unless I know for certain it won't become food...except for this one rooster from hades who I named Essen. Bastard was a very nice Easter dinner. Looks like I'm adventuring alone today and probably not doing as much as my over-zealous brain had planned, but I'll have fun just the same.

My brother once had 3 pigs named ham, bacon & sausage and a cow named stew.

I can't wait to get out and dig in my dirt, though I do try not to encourage the robins to eat my worms, since I want the worms in my garden. Though with the cycle of life, the robin eats the worm and the cat eats the robin, though the cat is the only one who gets scolded. Now I just need to get chickens in my loop so I have someone to eat the weeds, while I ponder potential names like scrambled, over-easy and sunny-side up. ;o)

Love It!

And poached...

Today was meant for more digging, but as the dogerals'd dug their way outta their (large) cage (pastureland), instead I walked 'round it and patched the likeliest means of egress.

Oh, here's a thought for something fun to watch sometime soon: Chicken Run!

*hugs* and looking fwd to seeing you folks soon!

I've never seen 'Chicken Run', so I think you're right, I should watch it sometime soon. We may not make it up to Copper Moon this weekend, given the weather and our need to get things done here; so if rain postpones shearing, we'll stay home, borrow Ursa to get compost and start planting my green children outside. So soon may have to be later. Have fun wrangling the doggies. *hugs*
