Superlative day! No energy for full details, suffice to say much good food, friendship, music, performance, attire, and delights for all senses filled my day and evening. Pics to follow in a day or so. What I keep coming back to though after today's condenced version of The Pirates of Penzance (<1 hour) which reminded me of seeing the whole thing in SF in approx 1982, is that I need a CD of the soundtrack, but I don't know which version's best/good, so I hereby ask the lazyweb for any thoughts, hints, suggestions you care to share. And yes, there're several of you who like musicals and'll have opinions I'm hoping you'll provide, and yes, I'm in particular looking at [livejournal.com profile] crboltz as holder of the greatest soundtrack collection/selection who turned me onto that great Hair CD set not so very long ago.

If you saw the touring production from the early '80s this recording probably most represents what you saw:
Kevin Klein and company
this production was also filimed lived in central park and can be purchased from Amazon.

If you saw a legit operetta company, you probably will like: this one

Cheers

Thx for the input - 'preciated. I don't remember Kevin Kline, but I DO remember James Belushi...and I'm pretty sure Patrick Cassidy, or at least some Cassidy-boy. Must needs root through my box(es) of playbills to find out for sure before long, a fine project for some long winter day soon(ish).

Yes that was the tour production of the Kevin Klein broadway show. and Yes, that was james Belushi and patrick Cassidy. (It had some re-writes from the original show, so the Kevin Klein album will seem most like what you remember)
