This brings back some really lovely memories. As a teen in the early seventies I was visiting my sister who was living on a commune. We all sat around the table and made this wonderful recording on reel-to-reel for a friend there. He wanted his girlfriend in Sweden to get to know us better and to help persuade her to come out to Amerika. We told stories, jokes, debated recipes and ended the whole thing with Alice's Restaurant (the whole thing). I miss nights like that. I get that in small pockets but our culture has certainly changed. When I was a teen, I thought eventually the whole world was going to be a big commune with coffee houses in between. Maybe on the next planet :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, did the Swede come over after hearing the reel-to-reel?

I thoroughly enjoyed AR today, listening to it streaming on-line at the same time as friends up near Seattle...even though I'm home alone (w/the cats), I'm not really alone.

Hope you're feeling better.

Thankful you're still in my life, albeit vaguely/not-so-often these days. :-)

I used to live in a TV-less intentional community where every Sunday night we would sit around listening to 'Music With Moskowitz' on the radio - those were fun nights. Concerning the whole world being a big commune with coffee houses in between, I'm not giving up yet while still hopeful of seeing it within my lifetime. ;o)

We had no TV for years. We had one in the closet when we lived in Petaluma with a bunch of people. The idea was that if some disaster happened we would have the TV to get us more information. So sure enough, a big earth quake rolls along and we break out the TV and guess what? It didn't work because the earth quake knocked out some transmission towers for the TV stations. We have one know but I use just as much for a radio as anything else.

I have a few friends who keep their TVs in the closet so that's funny to hear others doing the same. My current household is TV-less by choice, only breaking it out for the occasional DVD.

April 5th at the Paramount. I've seen him quite a few times and it is worth it. I got to see the Alice's Restaurant 40th anniversary tour where he actually did AR. He doesn't play it very often. He is a great story teller.

[livejournal.com profile] stardragan began to initiate me into the mysteries of 'Alice's Restaurant' but we were interupted by Babeland shopping. I saw the movie when I was out the other day and thought about renting it.

it was playing on the radio as we drove up to Bellingham, I didn't realize it was considered a tradition

It's a tradition for some. And quite a fun one, too, if'n you ask me. ;-)
