It's better to do something, even if not perfect, than continue doing nothing. It's better to complete 90% and leave 10% then do 10% and leave 90%. Hmm. Not so sure 'bout the wisdom of even bothering to do 10% and leave 90% versus not bothering to start at all.
Realizations: I procrastinate heavily and quite well. Partially-completed projects clutter my path. I stumble 'pon them as I wander...and they make me wonder: why? Why start something if'n I'm not gonna finish is? Well, when I start something, I (usually/often/sometimes) intend to finish it...or at least don't intend not to finish it. Realization w/in the realization: sometimes (recently in particular) I don't start something 'cause I don't wanna not finish it and have yet another partially-completed project hanging around. Don't anybody bother saying "Just Do It!" 'Cause for some/whatEVER reason this just doesn't happen. At least not right away.
So. Now I'm gonna set forth some goals. Maybe here...or maybe not. Part of me's saying "why bother" and part of me's saying "yeah, do it...at least try it and see what happens." Discreet bite-sized chunks're easier to deal with than huge amorphous projects. But then THIS must precede THAT and THAT requires THESE. ARGH! Okay. Relax. Breathe. Must start somewhere or I'll get NOwhere (fast).
And then I start in again w/the shut up shutting up and DO IT ALREADY! Don't list it, don't figure it out, don't decide to do it...Don't Visualize It, DO It - Then Turn Around & Look Back At It. Well, that's what I'm trying to do. *stupid stupid stupid* *true true true* *me me me*
*sigh* - gots to get back at it now...

Date: 2007-04-19 02:32 am (UTC)First, one of my very favority sayings: "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly".
Second, what I have learned about myself and the "why" behind so many unfinished projects is that I seldom start a project because I truly want the finished thing; what I want is the knowledge of how to do it. Once I have that knowledge and know that I can develop that skill if I need it, I tend to lose interest.
Thoughts Appreciated
Date: 2007-04-19 02:36 am (UTC)Yeah, I've got several friends like this. That's not what's up w/me though, at least not this time 'round. I need to unpack all my boxes and put the sh!t away and/or get rid of it. Distribution of crap is my current main goal. Methinks it's gonna be easier if'n I break this down into Baby Steps.

Date: 2007-04-19 03:03 am (UTC)One box at a time. It's only one box. I'm sure you're doing the easy ones first, right? ;) And I grok the "but I need a shelf for X, and a hanger for Y" and all that. Ok. So put them on the floor next to where they're supposed to go. A box one night, getting things off the floor the next night.
