What Really Counts
Apr. 20th, 2005 04:13 pmWhat matters? It's up to each of us to figure it out. It's what we really care about. It's what we base our vision/belief(s) of our selves on, what underpins/undergirds our sense of self-worth. This includes what we decide to value in the opinions of us held by those who make up our community and/or our fambily. Tricky when visions/values conflict. When one counts positively to one set counts negatively to another. We must each figure it out for ourselves. It ain't easy. Subjective/situational based ethics don't make it any easier, 'cause sooner or later we're gonna realize that hypocracy ain't coo-el. (My value judgment's clear here.) They just don't work...not usually, not generally, not in the long term. Pleasure ain't enough. Service, giving back, spreading joy, making the world a better place - this has gotta be part of it. Pure selfishness won't suffice.
Gonna go eat a mango mochi now.
