Random Thoughts
Mar. 29th, 2007 09:09 amThese've been swimming through my brain at odd hours on 'n' off for days now so I'm finally letting 'em swim by the window of my consciousness (e.g., LJ):
It amuses me greatly that one of the main side-effects of spending time in the PacificNW is a huge increase in my acquaintance and f-ship w/folks from (either orig or having spent chunks o 'time in) the South (U.S.A.). This goes along with an only in PDX (so far in my experience anyway) sighting: one of those flyers left on your doorknob for restaurants, this one for All Organic Southern Comfort Food. Hmmmm.
One of the main differences up here versus down yonder is of scale. There one must contend with and drive through huge quantities of space (geography), time (moving across distances), and people (so many people) to get/find what you want and need. Here all you need is all around you - or at most not very far away. It makes for a happier existence as far as I'm concerned.
