Okay, I've finally figured out how to embed a link w/in text in LJ...or whatever it's called when you click on the blue text and it takes you to the link. Now, howzabout if'n I want clicking to open a new window w/the link appearing there? Haven't found it in the LJ FAQ. Any hints/suggestions from the Techno Gods & Goddesses out there'd be appreciated greatly!

or, the short answer:

[a href="thewebsite.com" target="_blank"]Insert your text here[/a]

replace [] with <> of course

< a href="www.whatever.com" > Put what ever here to make it clickable then close it with a < /a> (Close the gaps in front of the A and after the com" and you will have your coding.

What a href means is a hyperlink reference point (tells the computer your taking me somewhere) is at this location (=) "www.hi.com" and that spot is protected by two pretend walls < and > Anything on the right side of the wall (The > sign) becomes a hyperlink (blue lettering that you click on)... when your done typing what ever it is that you want to call it, you close it with a small guard post (That's what I call it...) It's the point.

I hope this comes through on your LJ, its that easy. Next time, we'll learn images!

Now bow down and worship your TECHNO GOD! Hehehe

Thx for the help and for the explanation which nobody's bothered with before and which I really appreciate. Actually, though, THIS one I know (just learned), but I think it doesn't open the referenced link in a NEW window, just swaps out the olde for the new.

Target lets you specify the frame or window in which the linked document will load:

_blank loads the linked file in a new, unnamed browser window.
_parent loads the linked file in the parent frameset or window of the frame that contains the link. If the frame containing the link is not nested, the linked file loads into the full browser window.
_self loads the linked file in the same frame or window as the link. This target is implied, so you generally don't need to specify it.
_top loads the linked file in the full browser window, thereby removing all frames.
