Thoughts for A Letter
Apr. 14th, 2006 08:45 amA Few Quick Notes On Communication Styles (for expansion later when I have time): how they differ, what they are? A couple (at least)different approach spring to mind:
(1) seeking stretching my mind back to high school Oral English and rhetoric...diff types of speech for (a) different purposes the speaker has and (b) for diff audiences...thus: is the audience mature and sophisticated or more simple and down-to-earth or where in-between, do they have specialized knowledge or interests...also: is the goal to persuade, to entertain, to elucidate/teach/explain while also seeking to forge bonds, to renew ties, to reaffirm connections. (c) Is the communication session a one-time only gig or an on-going process? (d) What's the medium of communication? Written, spoken, typed, taped, on TV screen, on videoscreen, on billboard, quickie ad or lecture at the Royal Astronomer's Club, advertising tag on condom, beamed directly into the brain by ET-powers?
(2) By comparison w/thinking modes/styles: spontaneous, reflective, bring in the Bloom's Taxonomy and the 6 levels/types of abstraction/questions (Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, Evaluation), recursively looping 'tween drawing generalizations from specifics, testing theory w/other specifics, taking conclusions to logical extremes, revising 'em, honing 'em, clarifying...

- see if'n there's time to make IRA deposit this morning - NOT, SO MON MORN IT IS
- see whassup w/taxes! - EXTENSION TIME
- travel to AJ's - DONE
- lunch in downtown LA - DONE
- buy fabric for cloaks - DONE (and nice, too!)
- wash fabric and hang to dry - IN PROCESS
- do laundry - IN PROCESS
- start making cloaks (measuring and cutting an unequal number of times) - NOT 'TIL SAT
