I watched myself react fairly strongly and negatively to...certain things...then watched as I realized my reaction was over-the-top and inappropriate to boot, or rather, appropriate to boot as in kick in the head before it kept going and I extrapolated all sorts of carp out of a very few facts/feelings. So, I reined myself in, in essence counted to 10, then reworked my framing of reality (my POV) to put a positive spin on it - possible and good. And then, later, when more became apparent (both factually and in the clearer light of less exhaustion), I'm SO PLEASED I DID. Jumping to conclusions and following 'em to bitter ends can be such a waste of energy and time.

The quality of one's emotional energy matters. Continued vitality depends (at least in part) on unplugging negative flows and replacing 'em w/a better class of spark plugs. Or something. Some do choose (or have become set in their ways and the standard path of least resistance is) to dwell on the negative, to focus on it, to pick it out from the pack and let it be what shines the brightest. I'm not saying life's all happy and cheery and good, there's certainly pain and strife and bad stuff, too. But given the choice of direction/focus, I'd prefer giving the benefit of the doubt and heading towards the positive outcomes than ruin a perfectly good moment by nitpicking the one single thing that's outta place or coulda been better. (This last line's stemming in part from seeing movies w/one friend who'll let one problem ruin an otherwise perfectly good movie...but also applies to other life situations.) Bitterness is an enemy. As is envy, hatred, spite, malice...all these nasty things that can crop up when one's worth is determined solely/mostly (at all?) from necessary comparisons w/others rather than against some basic (or complex) ideal independent of others. Perhaps I'm being massively idealistic...but it's something to aim for anyway.

This morning's rambling brought to you by...the busy mind of Em.

Yeah, and I do try to lead a fairly drama-free existence. When it's thrust upon me, I'll cope, but I'd prefer not creating such scenes at all, even in my head. Only 11 more sleeps 'til we're up yonder!
