Beating the Heat
Jun. 22nd, 2021 10:31 amYesterday's forecast of 96 for PDX convinced me to go Westward to beat the heat. The past yearplus I've only visited the Northern part of the Oregon coast, all spots between Astoria and Cape Lookout State Park outside Tillamook. This time we toodled South and West to some fave areas between Lincoln City and Newport, as well as some new places: Gleneden Beach (short stroll), Boiler Bay lookout (more wandering with bonus watching cormorants nesting on the side of the cliff), Depoe Bay for take-out clam chowder from Gracie's Sea Hag at a picnic table by the whale watching center and the self-proclaimed world's smallest harbor, then relaxing for over an hour with books (mostly ignored as mesmerized by the waves and the fog) - and finally walked along the Newport harbor, a combo of tourist trapclap and fisherfolks and crabbers with bonus NOAA and Coast Guard presence. 'Twas cool (58-61) and foggy and delightful. Saw a bit of a sunset on the way home, once we emerged from the fog. Had a fine, if long, day! The upcoming forecast of triple digits for Saturday-Monday'll likely find me coastal again on the Monday. Not willing to battle traffic or crowds over the weekend, so'll opt for running the AC in the upstairs guest bedroom and camping out there, possibly with a day at the movies to enjoy more powerful AC at some point.
Happy Summer!
