I succeeded against the sludge monster. It took typically unplumberly tools of mass destruction, including aggressive application of an axe and a fireplace poker, but I came, I saw, I conquered. There were also hummingbirds and froggies. And [livejournal.com profile] quetz was John Goodman. It was quite odd, although completely natural at the time. Now to return to sleep...perchance NOT to dream...

Science Pub Nights. Haven't been yet (just now learning 'bout 'em), but what a great opportunity.

Gakked essentially word-for-word from [livejournal.com profile] jimkeller's post from a posting on the L.A. Times' L.A. Now blog, who in turn snagged it from Southern Voice:

From the pulpit of Tabernacle Baptist Church on Sunday, Rev. Al Sharpton called out the Mormon Church and other conservative faiths for mobilizing to support Proposition 8 to ban gay marriage in California while refusing to be as involved in any other social concerns.

“It amazes me when I looked at California and saw churches that had nothing to say about police brutality, nothing to say when a young black boy was shot while he was wearing police handcuffs, nothing to say when they overturned affirmative action, nothing to say when people were being delegated into poverty, yet they were organizing and mobilizing to stop consenting adults from choosing their life partners,” Sharpton told a packed audience on Jan. 11.

“There is something immoral and sick about using all of that power to not end brutality and poverty, but to break into people’s bedrooms and claim that God sent you,” Sharpton added.

Wandered back over to FaceBook today. I'd set one up a year ago (when the Big Flood of 2007 happened) at the urging of and with the help of [livejournal.com profile] lordandrei, as I'm a Techno Tyro and prefer my hand held for new stuff like this. Have scarcely been back since. Could likely spend a LOT of time there w/out really noticing. And I've got time to spare...but now I'm realizing I need to figure out how/where to spend/focus it. Much food for thought to munch-crunch on. I'd rather DO things w/people than just write 'bout it.
