Walking the Tracks
Feb. 23rd, 2006 10:54 pmWalked along RR tracks this eve in search of ice cream. 'Twas a successful trek: expended some excess energy and procured Caramel Caribou yumminess. The new system's on my 'puter but now it won't connect to the internet for some reason. Mournful Sigh.
O'morrow's the big Guinness drinking/toasting celebration thingiemabob. Will spend it w/the Wicked Tinkers down in Santa Fe Springs ideally, or perhaps at Finn McCool's more locally, or at the ultimate local watering hole: mi casa.

Date: 2006-02-24 09:01 am (UTC)Actually, now that I think about it, it seems like it was last week when they were talking about doing it. Hmmm. And, yes, ultimate watering hole is always home. No DUI. Blasted as ya please. Your favorite music everytime. And bed for sleepy-by just a hop, skip, and a stumble away.

what system and what are the symptoms? (trouble shooting internet connections is something I did for years before I do what I do now)
and I'll need to know things like what your operating system is and how you are (trying) to connect to the internet.

Date: 2006-02-24 06:06 pm (UTC)My family is mac so in the past I've had to keep up with OSX as that's what my dad uses and he needs help from time to time too.
(wracks my brain for data). before you back up and restore have you looked at your network settings to make sure that they didn't get reset to default settings when you upgraded to the new vs of OSX? That's about the only place where settings could change. Also Even Mac uses drivers for the network card. Check to make sure that those haven't changed.
can you "ping" your cable modem? (and I'm making the assumption that you've unplugged your cable modem or turned it off and turned it back on again).
also check your DNS settings for a "gateway" info and make sure that set to your cable modem's either IP address or Mac address depending on how its connecting (usualy its an IP address).
Unlike PC I think all of those settings are in very different places. Unfortunatly for the life of me I can't remember where they are on the Max OS..:(
hope that helps...
