I'm tired of answering "But WHY?" I'm doing it. That's the way 'tis. My call. And I'm not really sure myself but don't think I need a reason, just a desire. Trusting intuition now. (What a novel concept - or rather, an olde concept newly put to the test by moi-meme.)
Thought today was gonna be slow and mellow. Have stacks of books to read. Continued reading Anita Blake #2 (Laughing Corpse?) this morning, but then, just in the middle of a seriously engrossing part, I began taking care of a thousand-and-one other more important things: cooking, watering plants, making lists of other things to do, feeding kitties, feeding myself. Have now managed to cook snacks for the next three (3) days. Have restocked the household paper supply (TP, PT, Kleenex, FemProd). Have procured supplies to cook meals for the next four (4) days and will do so soon. Have registered for a weekend (this Fri - Sun) MCLE thingiemabob so I don't leave it 'til the last minute like last time. Last year at this time I suffered through much stress and insanity when I made the 2/1 deadline but just barely. Now I'm taking a free w'end and satisfying 14 of the 25 required hours. The topics seem pretty good: lots of real estate stuff, whassup re: BK, "Superhero Internet Fact Finding Strategies," employment law & mental health. The remaining 11 hours I can do by self-study: reading articles, completing self-assessment tests and sending 'em in. This can be done anytime over the next TWO (2) YEARS (next deadline = 2/1/08). I far prefer taking care of stuff & things ahead of time, but don't always use my time & energy wisely. 2006 is starting off pretty well along such lines.
Rant: yesterday sucked in two (2) foot-related ways. First, I stepped on a dead rat. Luckily I noticed I was stepping down on something, realized what 'twas and took my foot up before putting the full weight of my body onto it. I had socks on, but no shoes. It's outside. I rent. The farking landlord can take care of it. As well as the termites. And the annoying toilet & showerhead. Sigh. Second, when I got home last night, I had six (6) new thick liquid-filled blisters from the previous evening's pouring boiling water on my foot/leg incident...yes, I'm now an expert on how NOT to make tea properly. (No biggie - just 2nd degree burns on a few toes. I ran directly to the shower, got in and turned on the cold water where I soaked and shed my clothes.)
Rave: yesterday's road trip to Sta Barbie w/
delerium3 was really nice. Pretty & clear all the way up the coast. PCH: This Road is My Road - think The Go Go's "This Town is My Town." Stopped off to wander 'round CSUCI (pron. "sushi"). It's such a lovely campus away from it all, w/great olde trees and buildings. Formerly the Camarillo State Hospital (for the Criminally Insane), it's been nicely converted to a Cal State Uni. Amusing b'c the architecture's the exact same as in the city of SB itself, which prompted the comparison and is why SB's now affectionately known as the Town for the Criminally Insane. (Not really...and apologies to fambily what lives there if'n they were to stumble 'cross this.) After roaming 'round downtown Oxnard (and learning once and for all that my way's far preferable than following the signs), we hit SB just in time for lunch at The Natural Cafe. YUM! (And their menu's good 'nuff the diet was stuck to perfectly well and easily.) Roamed State Street then later on took an hour-long beach walk during which time the sunset turned the hills all gorgeous and purple (purple foothill's majesty), the sky pink then orange, the water a deep rich dark blue. Music from a local drum circle accompanied much of the walk. Then, home again home again, w/good music all the way. I find it exceptionally pleasant to drive just a couple of hours in a spell rather than six or more. Began Anita Blake #2 while soaking (w/left foot out of tub) in a bubbly bath (using up the very last of my fave bubbly bath stuff - must find more!) Overall a very good day.
Recent DVD viewings - High School themed: Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Dazed & Confused, Summer School, The Breakfast Club. (Not that long ago in the same vein: Ferris Bueller's Day Off). Haven't seen a movie in a theatre in AGES. Nothing since Narnia. Wanna go see a mess of stuff! Soon. NOW. Sigh. But first: cook (chili). Seems I have no time, which makes no sense. Upcoming plans (so I can keep track of 'em):
Sun (today) - cook, read [MOVED TO TU 6pm: do the final round (really truly madly) of x-mas gift opening w/friends I haven't seen since last year]
Mon - Hmm, just realized I've got nothing scheduled 'til the afternoon when I wanna see a movie somewhere Glendale/Burbank-way), then eve plans
Tu - NO! 6pm chez D&C
Wed - cook, plant daffodil bulbs
Th - D-land?
Fri - MCLE (9:30am - 6:15pm), Hedwig (4th Anniversary Show) if I can make it
Sat - MCLE (9:45am - 5pm) (I opted outta the 8:30am session in case I see Hedwig)
Sun - MCLE (10:15am - 12:15pm), cook
EDIT: Tu - NOT SD - 6pm din-din and x-mas gifts and hanging out (damn my double-booking of Sun!)
And thus goes most of January 2006 - wow: time's flying by!
