Well, THAT was nice. Big Bear's lovely at this time of year. (Well, really, I say this ANY time of year.) Played briefly in snow driving home this afternoon, when I drove up the Rim of the World (Hwy 38) aka the Easy Back Way, and we found snow on the ground 'round 8000' elevation (Onyx Summit & thereabouts). Good fires, good soaks in hot water w/the window open a crack to create much fog, good movies (Cool Hand Luke, The Warriors (come out and play-y), Elf & A Christmas Story), good people, good whiskey. Snippets follow:

Mouse patrol netted five (5) females. Gah. Navigational waters...hee!

Thoughts roamed 'round these idea(l)s, amongst many many others: Commitment. Happiness. Security. Fluidity. Flexibility. Joy. Patience. Consideration. Empathy. Selfishness. Selflessness. Something was said that pleased - and amused - and flattered me greatly...but ain't likely to be so, 'cause it ain't. Choices.

Off this Th, 12/15 for points North. Will lunch (hopefully) w/a friend in Santa Maria, then spend the night in Carmel Highlands before continuing Northward on Fri to prolly Oakland. The w'end will include Dickens in SF and the Telegraph Avenue Crafts Faire thingie in Berkeley. Not sure specifically beyond that 'til the following Th (12/22) when we visit Berkeley Rep for Comedy on the Bridge / Brunibar, which should be good. (http://www.berkeleyrep.org/HTML/CurrentSeason/741.html) Hoping to cadge an invite for the trad'l Solstice Poetry & Fondue Potluck, but this doesn't always happen on 12/21, so I'm not sure whether I'll be able to make it even if I am welcome (which I think I am). X-mas eve day will be spent celebrating w/step-pop & fambily, then x-mas (and start of Hanukkah) w/mom & fambily. Have more friends and fambily to visit up there, too, some of whom will be 'round on x-mas eve & day, but there never seems to be 'nuff time to see everyone. Will then dash back down to return home either the eve of Mon, 12/26 or mid-day Tu, 12/27. Get to join fambily from NoCal at D-land on Th, 12/29 (yay)!

All in all, I'm pleased and untroubled ('cept vicariously for those near & dear to me who're troubled and worse) and happy and joyous...and exhausted. Guess I should do something 'bout x-mas gifts soon. As in o'morrow.

Good eve tonight wfriends featuring Glogg (Swedish bev), an Italian pasta dish, and choco thingies (brain-freeze: trad'l Japanese dough-wrapped ice creams that're in the fridge but I'm too exhausted to get up and go see what they're called) in honor of a friend's b-day (Sta Lucia Day o'morrow).

Heard from a Dear Friend that he's alive, just on hold and running at low ebb right now these daze as he deals w/the sh!tstorm that life's handed him of late. He assuaged (at least somewhat) my guilt 'bout contributing to said sh!tstorm.

I've had glogg... at a Danish Christmas. It was quite good... Probably the only good thing on the menu.

What, you didn't care for the fine selection (at least a dozen) of herring prepared in a delightful array of ways, including smelling like it's gone horribly bad? ;-)

Tonight's was from the recipe I posted last week: damned good stuff if I say so myself!

It was the four different types of potatoes, the pork loin, pork sausage, crackle and the cabbage which I didn't like. Dinner should have colors besides gray and white.
