Imposing Structure
Feb. 15th, 2005 08:49 pmHmm, it may be time to impose more structure on my life for the next three (3) months, while the Student Teaching gig goes on. I seem to do best when I've got pressure on - or none whatsoever. It's been mostly the latter for much of the past three (3) months, so it's time to deal with and prepare for the former. 'Twas a good semester back in whenever 'twas (S'03 - yow, 2 years ago!) when I took 7 classes (6 methods classes and creative writing through the English dept as a much needed & appreciated break from ed classes and students). Now it's just the one...feeling like I need to have more specific Must-Do's to fill in my time so I don't...what?...get into trouble? That's not it. More so I don't flounder or spin wheels feeling like I've got so much time so I use it ineffectively. It's a 6 unit class w/the 9 week (approx 7-3:30, M-F) in-class component and the seminar and the portfolio, which I'm gonna stop fearing and start embracing. I can jump through hoops...I will jump through 'em, and just maybe even do it w/style and flair...hopefully w/some creativity...gotta have some fun w/it so it doesn't get me down. You want a portfolio, I'll give you a portolio!
Feels SO good having a huge lessoning of stress and uncertainty along a couple of important life lines, e.g., r-ship-wise (he likes me, he really likes, to misquote Sally Fields) and student teaching placement-wise. Just heard this eve: 1st grade, Oak Street Elementary in Inglewood, starting a week from today (T, 2/22) w/my first observation date of 3/2 known so I can start preparing for it. Phew! Knowing makes it easier (possible!) to prepare. Must read the 1st grade standards...blah blah blah. Must do a drive-by of the school so I know where 'tis. Actually, given the YahooMaps directions (exit 405 @ Florence), maybe I should modify the previous sentence. Dunno whether to insert a smiley face or a worried face smiley here.
Are they all called Smileys even if they're frowning?
'Kay, full of energy and happiness...off for Irish moosic! Wheeeeeeeee! (Which, interestingly enough, has replaced Wahoo as my current expletive-opposite (can't think of the word) of choice.)
