Baking Note
Oct. 26th, 2005 11:30 amI KNOW THIS, but spaced when the time came (goes to show what comes from thinking you know it all when you haven't actually checked the recipe book in a while). If a baked good recipe calls for baking soda, you canNOT substitute baking powder and expect any decent results. I learned this from my older step-bro's attempt at baking PB cookies w/NO b power or b soda (we were out and we has too lazy or shy to ask a neighbor for some). They were tasty (and soft) when fresh outta the oven, but as they cooled, they took on the consistency and toughness of a hockey puck. Bleh. Now I'm off to the post office, farmer's market and store for more eggs for my 2nd (and successful damgit) baking attempt and flowers 'cause I feel like it.
