Do You Have Wood For Sheep?
Oct. 23rd, 2005 06:41 pmOh, come on, now - it's a Gaming reference. In Settlers of Cattan, you must trade items (e.g., wood for sheep) 'pending on what your lands produce and what you need to make to satisfy your goals. Yeah, this works well as an intro to this w'end.
Once again I found myself in the Company of Gamers. Now, I'm not anti-Gamer - heck, I'm borderline Gaming Geek enough, as evidenced by my use of the word "game" as a verb - but when the talk tends to revolve mostly 'round Gaming, interspersed w/sports (mostly baseball w/a smidgeon of football & basketball tossed in) and pop-culture references (olde TV & movies then and now), I tend to get antcy. This is prolly why at such gatherings I end up doing nearly all the dishes (gets me outta the interaction for a while) and hanging out on the edges. It's just not so much my thing. I'd've preferred more Nature-type stuff. But it's my own danged fault for not trekking off on mine own more, too. The stars were abso-farking-lutely BRILLIANT! The Milky Way looked spray-painted onto the velvet sky and the waning but still pretty big moon out meant we needed no light to get around later at night, although flashlights made it easier to tell when food on the fire was ready for eating.
The drive home was really quite good, even w/the backtrack from 101 when all traffic crawled to a halt and I said "fark this" and scooted back North again and then across at the CSUMB (pron "sushi") cut-off to PCH. 'Twas misting heavily and smelling mighty saltly and it cheered me up quite a bit. The quickie Sta Barbie stop netted me NO good boots (pout - apparently the ones I saw last Spring/Summer were NOT chosen to sell after all) and NO good games. Off to Aero Hobbies o'morrow and if no luck there, will do Amazon or whassitcalled (not Thunder Mtn - must ask whoever reco'd it this w'end).
We played some good games this w'end, including Who's The Ass? and Category 5, which I wanna pick up myself soon. And this morning's craft project was also fun, even if some griped and/or grumbled. Overall: 'twas a good w'end, but not a great one, which disappoints me somewhat, but not horribly.
