The lightning storm last night was incredibly awesome! Today's rain was impressive, too. Didn't think 'bout it 'til sometime this afternoon (by which time I'd been away from home for over 24 hours), but I left several windows open (three only a few inches and one wide). Sigh. Guess I better head back soon to assess the damage and mop up.

This week's getting crowded. Today's shopping list included: interesting dried foodstuffs (detailed previously - for Hot & Sour Soup), bats & kiln furniture and scrapey thingies & loopy thingies (for clay). After being overwhelmed by Rice Pud recipes and determining that the only rice options in the house consisted of a Basmati Medley (complete w/herbs - too much savoury for what I consider a sweet dish) and brown-rice-in-a-bag instant stuff, I figured out something which worked quite well (instant brown supplemented w/dried raspberries).

O'morrow'll consist of shopping for kiln furniture (again), art supplies, army surplus stuff, and more Chinese food fixin's (today's adventure at the frequented by 98% Chinese clientele 99 Ranch Market grocery store netted some interesting taste treats - Choco Puffs, Muscat gummies, Ginseng Coffee - and what looks and sounds vaguely like tiger lily buds/bulbs and some sort of dried Chinese shrooms (the labels were mostly not-in-English and nobody who worked there could really help much, other than to guide me to aisle 5B where the dried goods live - an amazing selection of dried fungi of various types, ditto cuttlefish and other sea-dwelling beings/items), then making dinner (Hot & Sour Soup and possibly yumbo Cuke Slad, & another Serenity viewing. Wed's gonna be for gathering supplies for the w'end away (including for the checkerboard b-day cake I've volunteered to bake w/new bakeware I've never tried out before...gulp!), packing for the w'end away (camping gear, food, clothing layers - including full rain-protection, etc.) plus an eve of more dinner and stuff. Th's D-land (weather permitting), which leaves Fri morn for baking the b-day cake before I start driving North for a w'end in the middle of nowhere near New Cuyama, itself in the middle of nowhere out 'tween Santa Maria & Bakersfield involving route 166 and travel through several probably exceedingly damp & muddy cowfields. Whew - fun but full! Ack - must add firewood to the list. Ack - the drier's buzzing so much go fold laundry and be on my merry way...I'm happiest when busy, so long as I get down time for recovery before and after.

EDIT: The 99 Ranch Market (Asuza & Colima) carries Caramacs, previously thought available only in Hawaii: SCORE!
