Normalize Huzzah!

I heard recently that current text/msg etiquette frowns upon exclamation points (much less interrobangs). Well, the heck with that! I favor normalizing the use of "Huzzah," or perhaps "HUZZAH!" None of this "too cool for school" attitude for me, where I cannot applaud or laud what I love for fear of looking uncool. (Harumph! ;-)

Since I mostly text with Those In My Own Age Range, and it's miraculous enough getting (many of) them to text in the first place, I am not aware of any such "rules." Please advise: is there anything critical in this "current etiquette" that I must know, or would the Rules developed way back in the 20th Century still work just fine for those of us who, also, were developed way back in the 20th Century? Thanks!

Heh, a friend had read about these new etiquette rules somewhere on-line. She told me about the "no exclamation" mark rule, but I've not read 'em myself. Quite frankly, I don't give a damn! As you note, we who've followed the rules set forth when we learned 'em back in the day can feel fine continuing to follow 'em.


That being said, I will and do use people's preferred pronouns, even if'n that means I have to mangle some verb tenses with "they." I consider it a matter of showing respect for the person, which trumps grammatical rules. YMMV.

Yes, we were bestowed with many grammar rules back in Ye Olden Days. Some made sense and still do; some did not.

I agree fully about personal pronouns, but I'll admit I have had no end of difficulty using "they" as singular. Hey, I'm that guy who actually uses "whom" occasionally, so "they" can be a real grimace-maker for me.
